Reicka (Brasil) e Dolce (U.S.A), NOH8 campaign backers at no Second Life.

Harvey Milk was an american gay. In 1972 he and his partner moved from New York to San Francisco and decided to open a photography shop in a neighborhood called Chaste, at this time gays were not welcome there.

After a series of moral harassment, Milk became a great political leader who led nationwide campaigns for gay rights, inclusively with the support of conservatives, a charismatic and humorous guy, who fighting for their rights quickly transformed Castro neighbourhood into a reference in the struggle for gay rights. Now gay marches are held all over the world. There is a good movie covering this story: MILK (click for watch trailer ).

Unfortunately, almost four decades later, in 2009 history repeats itself and photographer Adam Bouska and his partner Jeff Parshley are driven to start a movement that opposes the approval of "Proposition 8", a law that forbids the marriage of persons of the same sex in California. Then comes the NOH8 movement, called "silent protest", which is performed through the photos, in which its supporters appear with their mouths taped, sympathizing with the cause of the "NO TO HATE" (a.k.a. NOH8). Many famous people joined the campaign and took photos, which can be checked out on the official website:

It was also in 2009 that two women from different countries, upon learning about the campaign decided to adhere to it, but with pictures of their Second Life avatars, and have not stopped since then. They has been responsible for disseminating and huge participation of other avatars in the NOH8 campaign. Learn a little more about Brazilian Reicka Levoir and the American Violet D. Megazine: When you learned about the NOH8, what did you expect when you decided to mobilize Second Life avatars for the campaign? Five years have passed, what do you think you have achieved with this movement? 

Reicka and Dolce: We believe that showing people in SL some of the struggles a lot of people go through in RL and most people come to SL to be something they can't really be in RL.. to live their dreams, to live the sexuality that they wish they could be open with in RL, to be a furry, to become a model, to live a rich life style, to show creativity, and to just be there self. Second life is a great branch for a lot of people to go and create a life style that most always dream of.

Megazine: How the partnership works between you? 

Reicka and Dolce: We work together to create a partnership of a team no more or less.. We want to show the people on second life that this is very serious and that we take this campaign seriously, and not just another campaign or function that is going on. We want to inspire people lives... to make a difference in someones life, to be a spokes person for someone that feel they can't truly be who they want to be.

Megazine: I think the NOH8 represents much more than a no prohibition between the stable union between homo affective relations, but also a yes to freedom of choice and free will of human beings, regardless of their sexual orientation, which is the point  about the current impact of this campaign in society, be it real or virtual? 

Reicka and Dolce: Anyone can join the campaign in Second Life and in real life.. we love the support and help from others.. we encourage it!

Megazine: You are gay or bisexual? Have had some form of sex discrimination? 

Reicka and Dolce:I am heterosexual and have never suffered discrimination (Reicka), but my parents from real life and Second Life have suffered pre-concept and it made me embrace the campaign.Its a way to show my disgust at such an attitude and disrespect to others and your sexual choice...
